A quick history of an iconic race

The NYC Marathon began in 1970 with a small race inside Central Park. Only 55 runners finished that day. In 1976 the course expanded to all five boroughs and the event grew into a citywide celebration.
It is now the largest marathon in the world. In 2024 it set a record with 55,646 finishers.

Chasing a sub-3
